ELECTIONS IN THE THIRD WORLD

Politics is still being operated in the crudest manner in some third world countries till now. Basically, such countries remain under developed because leaders produced through such fraud- ridden systems always fail to perform up to the expected standard and also; they face a lot of reactionary/ resistant forces who use various anti-social/economic means to sabotage the developmental processes of such countries. Example of such cont-ravenous activities include assassinations, smuggling, insurgencies, to mention a few.
Generally, elections are not expected to be “Do-or-die” affairs as it is; but a noble opportunity to serve and make positive contributions to one’s father land. However, in countries where election processes are being shrouded in myriads of malpractices, it is quite obvious that the essence of holding an elective office is already misplaced. Many of such political office holders are known to accumulate overnight wealth with a lot of properties acquired both at home and abroad- all to the detriment of the hapless masses who voted for them with high hopes and great expectations!
In a grim situation as mentioned above, the most effective way to correct the anomaly is to have a well trained and well oriented set of politicians whose mindsets have been defrayed from such ill-intentions as massive misuse of public assets. Rather, they should be able to view critically the available resources and engage the services of relevant experts in order to expand and upgrade such resources for the benefit of all citizens of the country.
One basic problem that requires urgent solution in such economies is lack of empowerment. The first aspect of such empowerment has to do with adequate power supply. Most of the citizens are usually willing to engage themselves in various viable small-scale activities if they have basic power supply. Activities such as tailoring, food processing and preservation, metal, plastic and wood-works, welding, electric spray-painting, electrical/electronic and Information/communication technology to mention a few; are prominent among petty commercial activities in which the masses engage themselves every day.
The second part of such lack of empowerment is in the area of agriculture, where the practice is still in the primitive form. It is a highly profitable venture that can attract youths and ensure sufficient food production as well as having surplus for export. Leaders of such poor economies are usually blinded to the realities of the present-day strides in the profession. Farmers need basic training, equipment and support in the modern methods of mechanized farming… To be continued.

TECHNOLOGY: BLESSING OR OTHERWISE TO OUR WORLD…

The world, I mean our world; is reeling in myriads of discomforts, intrigues and clueless vices bedeviling the human race. Ordinarily, life is expected to be far easier to live in; courtesy of the power of automation at the fingertips which makes it possible to accomplish tasks far easier than what it was in the past. Transportation is an example of the remarkable achievements which empowers man to move round the world within hours. Communication is another glaring example, where one is enabled to speak with another fellow anywhere in the world at any time. The examples could go on almost endlessly.
However, there is the other side of the ‘coin’ which is giving mankind sleepless nights. Our world is presently riddled with the massive use of destructive devices like guns of various brands, explosives and the expertly organized crimes that include armed robbery, smuggling, assassinations, kidnappings, forgery, drug and currency syndicates, etc. The spate of insurgencies at various locations around the world cannot be overlooked. It is easy to see classifications been made concerning how safe it is to reside or not at various locations in different countries on earth.
Even the high technologically powered social media which is gulping substantial part of many peoples’ daily activities has its vices glaringly. It is well known to have been (mis-) used and still being perpetrated in launching attacks on other people, especially in a bid to blackmail another party. On many occasions, naked pictures of an unsuspecting partner had been displayed flagrantly online. Some see the social media as an avenue to unleash vengeance in return for a wrong doing. Many people also use or misuse it as an avenue to perpetrate different criminal acts. It is common to see a male partner inviting the female counterpart to meet physically under the pretext of being in love. The result turned out to be that the female ended up being gang-raped and killed!
It is yours and my choice to decide whether to make resourceful use or otherwise of the technological feats attained in the present day or remain on the other side of the divide. One thing is certain, and that is to say that if you choose to make good use of it, you will live good and if you choose the other way round, then expect the odd result to come and stare at you in the face. Remember both the long arms and the eagle eyes of the law. It is still true till today; the common saying that, “Life is what you make of it, be it good or…”
